"...an infinite storm of beauty"

when we contemplate

the whole globe

as one great dewdrop,

striped and dotted

with continents and islands,

flying through space

with other stars

all singing and shining

together as one,

the whole universe appears

as an infinite storm of beauty.

-john muir (1838-1914)

laura, thank you! the verse is actually a quote from john muir's, "travels in alaska." i often format quotes in poetic form, because to me, the words are so beautiful and read very much like poetry.

kel - hehe...i'm a hippy at heart.

tammy - it's a citra solv piece (digitally altered). have you ever experimented with that? turns old national geographic magazine pages into great textured papers for mixed media work, journal pages or collage backgrounds.

definitely an infinite storm of beauty - a kaleidoscope of it!!

I've used citra solv with national geographic mags. i wasn't crazy about my results, but i've seen nicer ones in other peoples work. my results were fuzzy/blurry. maybe it depends on the kind of paper you do it on... are you working with it?

karin - to get this image, i started out with a citra solv'd national geographic page, from which i cut out a 4 inch circle, then glued it to a piece of foam core that had several layers of acrylic paint on it golden rust tones. then i painted a light halo of yellow acrylic around the circle. i scanned that, then took it into photoshop elements to crop and play with. that's how i seem to work best with citra solv...taking the scanned pages or beginnings of pieces into photoshop to "finish" them.
